This workshop focused on supporting these emerging leaders in gaining enriching perspectives on their leadership development. The ALM framework serves as an “unmasking” process, enabling them to become well-versed in their values and principles.
One key takeaway for the participants came from a Hay Group/Korn Ferry survey. The survey highlights the significant impact leadership behavior has on organizational culture, contributing 50-70%.
Furthermore, this survey positions organizational culture as the single biggest factor (35%) influencing organizational outcomes (reflected in P&L, balance sheet, and employee engagement). The remaining 65% of influences include factors like resources, regulations, and intellectual property.
The Importance of Culture
Organizational culture is a delicate asset. Unfortunately, it’s often misinterpreted or even undermined by CEOs with limited interpersonal skills. Their attempts to cultivate a desired culture through superficial events and training often fall short, wasting valuable resources.
Marshall Goldsmith, a renowned executive coach, emphasizes the deep connection between authentic leadership and organizational culture. Authentic leaders, characterized by self-awareness, genuineness, and transparency, foster trust and openness within their organizations. This creates an environment where honesty, integrity, and ethical behavior are valued, influencing the overall culture.
An authentic leader acts true to themselves, not just fulfilling others’ expectations. Their consistency in actions and decisions establishes a predictable and secure work environment for employees. This consistency is crucial for building a strong organizational culture, setting the tone for employee interactions and stakeholder relations.
Authentic leaders inspire authenticity in their employees, leading to a robust, resilient culture capable of achieving great things.
Leaders in today’s dynamic environment face complex challenges, like navigating career transitions, leading change initiatives, or addressing internal cultural issues. Additionally, blind spots, slow decision-making, or isolation can hinder them.
The authentic leadership model empowers leaders to break free from hypocrisy and other ineffective behaviors while promoting a culture of trust and integrity. This powerful model benefits not only the leaders themselves but also has a positive ripple effect on the entire organizational culture and its people.
To be more direct, the authentic leadership model helps us discover our destiny and live a better life.
